Landon Lin's 20" bandsaw

Jun 2024
I haven't published a lot of reader built bandsaw in recent years, but Landon Lim's build has to be the most beautifully built one I have seen. It looks like one of those artfully built pieces of fine furniture.

Landon Lim writes:

Hi Matthias,

I've been watching your videos since I was a kid and I'm a big fan. I managed to make your 20" bandsaw last year after buying your plans and I wanted to take the time to thank you and share some photos with you.

Adding the bandsaw project to my portfolio helped me land a job as an apprentice cabinetmaker here in Vancouver, BC after a tough stint of unemployment so I am truly grateful for the work that you do. Thank you for sharing.

Best regards,

Landon

Matthias replies:

Wow, that's built like a beautiful piece of furniture. Haven't seen a wooden bandsaw this good looking.
How will you keep that nice table from getting scratched?

Matthias

Landon Lim replies:

Thank you very much! It was a lot of fun to make. I've used it for 8 months now and so far no notable scratches on the table. I think it helps that it's 1/8" oak veneer (I laminated two layers of leftover engineered flooring from my parents), it's varnished, and I haven't milled any rough logs with it yet.

Matthias replies:

Just curious, are you Japanese?

Landon Lim replies:

Close, I'm from South Korea. Though I learned woodworking here in Canada, mostly online and on Youtube. During the pandemic I got really into hand tools, finding and restoring vintage handplanes and chisels on facebook marketplace and slowly completing projects while attending school. Now I have multiple benchtop machines and on weekends I work on making some modest furniture. You can follow my progress at @othatsrealnice on instagram if you're interested!
